Later, a video went viral on social media which showed a Hindu climbing on top of a mosque and placing a saffron flag on it. After much confusion regarding the veracity of the video, it became evident that desecration of religious places had occurred and the video had to be taken as accurate until proven otherwise. Thus far, it has not been proven to be false. [348]

Senior IPS officer SN Srivastava was appointed as the Special Commissioner (Law and Order) of Delhi Police in a late evening order on the 25th . He was repatriated from CRPF. Srivastava was also part of the urgent meeting convened by Home Minister Amit Shah late that night that lasted over 3 hours. The attendees constituted home ministry officials and Delhi Police personnel. The Jafrabad Metro Station area where Muslim groups had gathered to protest against the CAA was cleared the same night. Personnel of the Delhi Police had removed all the anti-CAA protestors blocking the area.

The Delhi High Court had held a midnight hearing and had asked the Delhi Police to ensure the safety of all injured persons during the riots. In a late-night hearing at Justice S Muralidhar’s residence, an HC bench had ordered the Delhi Police to deploy all resources to ensure safe passage to injured persons for treatment. Keeping in view the unrest in the city, the CBSE, upon the request of the Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi, ordered that all class 10th and class 12th exams scheduled for February 26 in North East Delhi would be postponed.

NSA Ajit Doval had visited several areas in the violence-torn North East Delhi. In another development, people from the Jamia Coordination Committee and alumni of the Jamia Millia Islamia held a demonstration outside Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in Delhi, demanding action against perpetrators of the violence. The Jamia protestors were reportedly dispersed with water cannons by security personnel. They were seen raising ‘Kejriwal Murdabad’ slogans. [349]

In the morning of the 26th , Arvind Kejriwal announced that he was writing to the Home Minister to call in the army to control the communal violence in Delhi. He also requested that the curfew be imposed in other affected areas immediately. Meanwhile, the security personnel had conducted flag marches in a few areas in the morning. [350]

In the afternoon, the Prime Minister appealed for peace in the wake of the riots through social media. On the 26th , the Supreme Court also observed that the debate around the Shaheen Bagh blockade had deteriorated into ‘something else’ which was ‘only an unfortunate example’. [351]

The same day, the body of Intelligence Bureau Constable Ankit Sharma was recovered from a drain in Chand Bagh. [352] Later in the evening, Deepak Chaurasia took a dig at NDTV journalist Sreenivasan Jain after he was pelted with stones by Muslims while reporting from the ground reminding him that he had claimed that Chaurasia was not a journalist when he was attacked by anti-CAA protesters at Shaheen Bagh.
